Surrendering a cat
We hear from people almost every day who need to rehome a cat. We want to help, but as a small no-kill shelter, we can only take in as many cats as we have room for.
We're full right now
We're only accepting cats that were originally adopted from Ferndale Cat Shelter. If that's you, fill out the form below.
For other cats, these groups may be able to help:
- All About Animals Rescue in Warren for low-cost vet care and TNR
- Michigan Humane if you live in Detroit
- Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society if you live in Detroit
Struggling to care for your cat?
Rehoming isn't always the only option. If money is the problem, our pet food pantry has free food, litter and outdoor shelters. We're happy to talk through behavior or allergy issues too.
If we can accept your cat
- There's a $250 surrender fee per cat. It covers the vet exam, vaccines, microchip and bloodwork every new cat needs. We get no government funding, so we can't absorb this cost.
- Your cat must be up to date on vaccines, given within the last year.
- We give priority to people who can keep fostering their cat while we find a new home. Our shelter and foster homes are usually full.
- Submitting the form doesn't guarantee we can take your cat.
